Always remember that prevention is better than cure. If you understand the causes for the toenail fungus, you can take steps to prevent contamination.
The underlying cause of the nail fungus is exposure of feet to wet or humid conditions. Sweaty socks are one of the leading causes of toenails fungus disease. However, it is also possible to get the infection from someone else.
You are more vulnerable to nail fungus if you were swimming in a public place with some other unknown people or take a shower in a public place.
It may also be possible for you to get a toenail fungus infection from whom you are sharing a bathroom. Presumably, if they are infected, such as having no knowledge of an infected person in a public setting.
Although having exposure to sweat and moisture is the main cause of the infection, but many other factors also increase the risk of nail fungus. Being an athlete means you are more vulnerable to toenail fungus disease because your feet are sweating most of the time during the day.
If you already have a fungus infection on one toenail then spreading the disease to other toenails becomes, much more likely.
Below are some other causes of toenail fungus;
- A person whose family members are already infected with the toe fungus.
- Individuals who often sweat while wearing shoes.
- People with skin disease or psoriasis.
- Working in humid environments.
- Those people who often walk barefoot, especially in wet places.
- Diabetes and immune system disorders.

I think you should add some more Toenail Early Stage Pictures to this post. Stages of toenail fungus should also be explained in detail.
Four of my left foot toenails are infected, the smallest nail has been infected for a few years, around 5 I’m guessing, and the biggest nail for around 2. After my biggest toenail got infected due to me getting a wound in a lake while swimming, it later on (around a year later) also infected the two toenails to the left. Two of my nails are yellow, one brown/purple kinda? And the smallest one is black. It seems infected toenails are more common in older men, but I’m only 15!
I haven’t been feeling any uncomfort or pain, however it does make me insecure and less confident.
I went to the doctor a year ago, and tried some medication, which didn’t really work. And since I was pretty busy with school and I always wore socks I decided to let the issue slide and go on with life. Until I found myself trying to avoid showing my left foot in any situation, which led to me doing some research and ending up here.
I’ll try to make an appointment with the doctor as soon as I can, but does anyone have any tips for home remedies?
